Veronica Roth (born August 19, 1988) is an American author known for her debut New York Times Bestselling Divergent trilogy, also the recipient of the Goodreads 2011 Choice Awards. Roth was raised in Barrington, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, and wrote her first book, "Divergent," while she was supposed to be doing her creative writing homework for Northwestern University.
In 2011 she married photographer, Nelson Fitch. Roth has an older brother, Karl Vincent Roth, who is a musician, a dog named Avi.
Apart from writing and reading, she likes to cook. She's interested in psychology (especially as it relates to personality, brain chemistry, and group dynamics), biology, theology (lately, the writings of John Calvin and Augustine), fashion, contemporary art, and poetry (Edna St. Vincent Millay is a favorite), among other things.
