Veronica Roth (born August 19, 1988) is an American author known for her debut New York Times Bestselling Divergent trilogy, also the recipient of the Goodreads 2011 Choice Awards. Roth was raised in Barrington, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, and wrote her first book, "Divergent," while she was supposed to be doing her creative writing homework for Northwestern University.

In 2011 she married photographer, Nelson Fitch. Roth has an older brother, Karl Vincent Roth, who is a musician, a dog named Avi.

Apart from writing and reading, she likes to cook. She's interested in psychology (especially as it relates to personality, brain chemistry, and group dynamics), biology, theology (lately, the writings of John Calvin and Augustine), fashion, contemporary art, and poetry (Edna St. Vincent Millay is a favorite), among other things. She will spend endless hours browsing Wikipedia in her pajamas as she eats corn flakes. (Or some other kind of bland breakfast cereal.)

The last great movie I saw was...
the True Grit remake. I fell in love with the dialogue.
My idea of a dream vacation is…
going to Iceland. There's so much to see there.
My desert-island book would be…
The Bible.
My writing rituals include…
tea. And drawing flow charts when I get stuck.
When I'm not writing or reading I…
am sleeping. Or eating.
Favourite writing snack food...
Goldfish crackers. Cheddar, preferably.
Favorite childhood book...
Like most people, I don’t have one answer to this question. The Giver. A Wrinkle In Time. Harry Potter (though it didn’t actually come out when I was a child, per se). And of course, The Babysitters Club books.
