FIRST MOVIE STILL: Shailene Woodley Faces Knives in Divergent!
From EW: Divergent, the highly anticipated adaptation of the first book in Veronica Roth’s best-selling YA series, only recently began filming on location in Chicago. But Shailene Woodley, who stars as heroine Beatrice “Tris” Prior, tells EW that the younger members of the Neil Burger-directed movie — which includes Ashley Judd, Kate Winslet, Theo James and Zoë Kravitz — have already clicked.
“It’s a good group,” she says. “We’re hanging out on weekends, celebrating birthdays. Everyone just wants to get to know one another. It’s rare to get a big group together and not have any conflicts. It’s really kind of amazing.”
Divergent takes place in a dystopian future where society is divided up into five factions. In this exclusive photograph, Tris is taking the place of a fellow Dauntless initiate, and must stand still while knives are thrown at her head.
“It’s about being selfless and standing up for what’s right,” Woodley says.
But don’t worry about those knives: “They’re just rubber,” she says.

Veroinca Roth On Her Visit To The Divergent Set + 'Uriah' Thoughts
Veronica Roth visits the Divergent set! We've seen some pictures recently of Veronica with the cast on set, here she gives us a glimpse into the the experience, and includes some thoughts on the news about Uriah not being cast until Insurgent movie.
From Veronica Roth: Full disclosure: as our car approached the set, I turned
to my husband and said, "I feel like I'm going to throw up." I mean, I
spend most of my time in front of a screen. Set visits to the movie
adaptation of the words I scrawled over winter break three years ago
were never something I was anticipating.
On the way there, I felt totally unprepared for what was coming, and that meant a little bit of nausea.
On the way there, I felt totally unprepared for what was coming, and that meant a little bit of nausea.
Spoiler alert: I didn't throw up. Instead, I calmed down, which is better.
.
.
Here's the deal: I want your first experience with this
stuff, in all its detail, to be as amazing as mine was, so I'm not going
to try to capture it all for you here. I'm just going to tell you,
generally, what I did and how I reacted to everything. Okay? Okay. (continued)

Divergent Character 'Uriah' Wont Be Cast Until Movie #2
It began as rumour.. but we're sad to say it has turned out to be true.
While it's disappointing, it does sound like they're dedicated to fully develop his character properly in 'Insurgent'. A few actors had previously read for the part of Uriah which made this news even more surprising, so I wonder whether they didn't find anyone good enough for the role, and didn't want to be forced to cast someone who wasn't exactly right. Better to have the perfect Uriah for movie 2 than a lame Uriah we wouldn't have been happy with, right?
Divergent Examiner got confirmation today: "As a lot of "Divergent" fans have noticed, one book-based character which has not yet been cast for the film adaptation is Uriah, the Dauntless-born initiate who buddies up with Tris throughout the faction initiation process.
An anonymous source close to the situation exclusively reports today that they will be reserving the character for movie two, "Insurgent" - if and when the second installment is given the greenlight - so as to more properly introduce and represent the character on-screen.
While Uriah does appear in the first book of Veronica Roth's "Divergent Trilogy," the character's arcs are much more developed and central in the second installment.
Since the start of production, fans have been speculating that this decision might be the case."
Production on "Divergent" is currently underway in Chicago, Illinois.

Veronica Roth Talks About Her Personal Experience of Writing Divergent Book 3
From Veronica: (You can read the full entry on her blog here)
"With this last book I got the gift of time, a full year and a half to
make it happen. And about halfway through the process, I realized that
time was making it possible for me to love what I was doing while I was
doing it, instead of just running toward a deadline as fast as I could.
The time let the book steep in me, so to speak, building strength, and
even now that I have been through several rounds of revisions I'm ready,
even excited, to read through it again. (It helps that this time it's
copyedits, my favorite things.)
I'm not here to discuss the book itself, or build it up, or dramatize
it-- it will be a creative failure in some ways and a creative success
in others and that's just the way books work. But what I'm talking
about, here, is the one area in which this work will never be a failure:
the process. In the process, I was open to criticism but I still knew
what was important to me; I worked at a steady pace and I stopped when I
needed some time to think; I let myself rest and I made myself work;
and I loved it, and I did it every day.
