These new stills from the Divergent movie feature in the latest issue of Teen Vogue (we believe the Oct edition, Hailee Steinfeld appears on the cover), as well a set report, and a brief chat with Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, & Miles Teller. Check out Ansel/Caleb in Erudite costume, and Miles/Peter looking ready for a fight, & sporting an arm tattoo.

Any actor will tell you that holiday weekends are nonexistent, especially when youre two months into shooting a movie. So when I got an invite to visit the set of Divergent, I didnt think twice about un-RSVPing to my friends Memorial Day BBQ and kissing the sweltering New York City heat goodbye for a trip to the Windy City.

Divergent based on the best selling young adult novel by Veronica Roth, is set in dystopian Chicago and stars Shailene Woodley, 21, as its sixteen year old heroine, Beatrice 'Tris' Prior.

"I was attracted to Tris because she is a normal adolescent," Shailene tells me once I'm on set. We're sitting in Pioneer Court between takes, and Shai, as she likes to be called, is sipping a green juice.
"She's not a superhero. She's a normal girl thrown into really extreme situation."
Shai says she endured combat training, as well as fire-arm training with the LAPD, for the role.
"I'm in every scene," she says of her schedule. "They average 14-hour days."

Today she's shooting a vital scene with 426 extras -no pressure! "When we wrap, I unwind, go home, take a bath, light candles, do yoga," she says. But here in the moment, she's ready for the next take and jumps up to join Ansel Elgort, nineteen, who plays her brother, Caleb Prior.
The cast stays in an apartment complex not far from this particular location, and Shai tells me "It feels like a giant frat house." Ansel chimes in: "You make close friends on movies. It's like summer camp."

Before I know it, they're shooting a school scene (which is actually outside a bank) where Peter, played by 26-year old Miles Teller, bullies a group of kids, and Caleb has to restrain Tris from confronting him. It takes hours of filming, and I'm rapt in the producer's tent, going back and forth between watching them in real life and on the monitor.

"Cut!" someone yells into a megaphone. Miles grabs a bottle of water and walks inside the tent. "You were pretty mean out there'" I say. He nods. " Peter does some evil stuff- he tries to kill Tris!" he says. "But Im gonna make him likable."

Working on this movie is clearly a labor of love for the cast, who all have an undeniable connection to one another. Shai comes over. "Miles and I have become like brother and sister," she says. "We argue and annoy each other, but there's a real-deal love at the bottom of it all."

I cant wait to see that translate on screen.
