A Look at the Making of the Divergent, Insurgent, & Allegiant Book Covers

Designer Joel Tippie takes us through a few of the many steps it took to design the final cover of Divergent. As you can see, it begins with various different style options that are gradually narrowed down to one final idea. We think it's pretty interesting to see how the design developed, and the many could-have-been covers! Check it out after the cut.
Update: We've also added a GIF of the design stages for the Insurgent cover (Divergent book 2) below, along with a look at the different options for Allegiant (Divergent book 3). Scroll down.

Video + Article: Ansel Elgort Featured in Teen Vogue

Divergent star Ansel Elgort is featured in the Teen Vogue feature: 'The Stars of the 2013 Young Hollywood Portfolio - Horror's Most Iconic Roles.'

Ansel Elgort as the Hollywood Hero

Age: 19
Hometown: New York City
Hello, Hollywood: With three big-time films on his résumé (this month's Carrie remake, and next year's Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars, both opposite Shailene Woodley) and hefty parts in them to boot, Ansel is the new It kid in town.
Heart for the Arts: Ansel, whose father is famed Vogue and Teen Vogue photographer Arthur Elgort, grew up immersed in the arts (even modeling for Teen Vogue for his dad). "I started doing musical theater and ballet," he says. "Then I spent seven years training to be an actor. It sort of all paid off."
Remix: Besides acting, his passion project is making house music and DJing in New York City under the name Ansolo. "I'm obsessed," he says. "At Comic-Con, two days before the Teen Vogue shoot, Asa Butterfield and I clicked and became total best friends ... over house music. He's a DJ too. — Dana Mathews
Bonus fact: Ansel was photographed inside Psycho's infamous Bates Motel. He was jamming to music on set, though, so he didn't seem too spooked.
Ansel wears an Emporio Armani jacket, and tie, $195. Jil Sander shirt.

Divergent's Theo James to Star in New Futuristic Murder Mystery Movie 'London Fields'

From Deadline: "Production is getting underway today in London on an adaptation of the Martin Amis novel London Fields. Mathew Cullen makes his feature directing debut on the adaptation of the futuristic murder mystery that Amis adapted with Roberta Hanley. Amber Heard, Billy Bob Thornton, Jim Sturgess, and Theo James are starring.

Heard plays the ultimate eternal sexual femme fatale, possessed of unusual beauty and hypnotic magnetism. Mysterious and clairvoyant, she sets a plan in motion to fulfill the prophecy of her own murder. Caught up in Nicola’s plan are a terminally ill writer (Thornton), a lowly street hustler (Sturgess) and unhappily married banker Guy Clinch (James), who become intertwined in a love triangle that unfolds in the grimy underbelly of London. Samson convinces Nicola to let him document her manipulations in a book she says will be his literary masterpiece but only she knows who the tale will end and who her killer will be.

The film is produced by Chris Hanley of Muse Productions, Jordan Gertner of Hero Entertainment, and Geyer Kosinski of Media Talent Group. A co-production with Demarest Films, the film will be ready for release next year and IM Global is handling worldwide sales.

Cullen has directed and produced more than 100 commercials and music videos and he helmed the prologue of Pacific Rim through Mirada, the creative studio he co-founded with Guillermo del Toro, Guillermo Navaro (who is DP on London Fields) and Javier Jiminez. Musical acts he has made videos for include Weezer and The Black Eyed Peas. The 23-year old also founded the commercials production company Motion Theory."

Sounds like an interesting project!

Kate Winslet Talks to MTV About Being Part of Divergent: "I didn't have any hesitation at all"

(Or watch HERE if this video is not viewable in your country)

From MTV: Academy Award-winner Kate Winslet is entering new territory with her role in the dystopian drama "Divergent" — namely, Franchiseland. But don't use the "f word" around the 37-year-old actress.

"It's funny. I think I'm developing a kind of subconscious loathing of the word 'franchise,' " she told MTV News' Josh Horowitz while promoting her movie "Labor Day" at the Toronto International Film Festival. "I just think of something that's packaged, something you can buy on a shelf and is immediately disposable. I don't know. It's a really weird word for me."

Winslet's distaste for the term, however, didn't stop her from accepting the role of Jeanine Matthews in the film based on Veronica Roth's best-selling novel, which takes place in a society divided into five factions, each representing a different virtue.

"I didn't have any hesitation at all," she said of her role in what could be a three-part series. "It was such a great script. It's a fantastic book."
In fact, her part in the project has already earned Winslet a modicum of cool cred with her kids.

"My daughter is going to be 13, and my son is almost 10, and they're getting to that age where this is the type of literature they're going to be reading very soon," she explained. "In fact, my daughter, two days ago, came home from school and went, 'Mom! You're never going to believe it. Rufus came up to me at school and said, 'Is your mom really in 'Divergent'? Is there going to be a premiere? Can you get me a ticket?' ' My daughter suddenly [had a] new-found respect. 'My mum is actually really cool.' I'm just going to go with that. I did it because I wanted my kids to think I was cool."

And, happily, Winslet reports that it was all worth it:
"It was a great experience shooting," she said. "It was a really fun set to be on. I can't wait to see it. I think it's going to be a great film."

Divergent's Ben Lamb on his Character 'Edward', Director Neil Burger, & the Butter Knife Scene

The Daily Quirk talks to Divergent star Ben Lamb about auditioning for the part of Dauntless initiate 'Edward', and a certain butter knife scene we're all morbidly excited to see in the movie:

TDQ: You’ve mentioned previously that you were auditioning for your next big role, Edward in the movie adaption of Veronica Roth’s dystopian sci-fi thriller Divergent, while you were still filming The White Queen. Can you tell me what that was like?

Ben Lamb: It was stressful. Very stressful. It was stressful, but it was also exciting. I think I wasn’t expecting my career…I knew that The White Queen was going to open doors for me, but I didn’t expect it so fast. And it was all very exciting, but it was also tiring because I was also shooting. I flew to LA twice to get that role. I was Skyping with the director [Neil Burger] while I was in Belgium and I was Skyping with the director on a really bad wi-fi, in Chicago and, you know, just trying to get the role. So, it was time consuming and stressful. And then I would come back jetlagged and keep filming, but it was all worth it in the end.

TDQ: So, what attracted you to the role of Edward?

BL: I think that he is one of the most exciting character transformations in the [Divergent] novels. I think it’s very rare that you get the chance, as an actor, to be like a golden boy at the start, but at the end be this dark, grizzled, bitter [character] that lost his eye. It’s just a really exciting opportunity for me to explore throughout however many books or movies it’s going to be, to explore that character changing so much. And also, clearly, I am a guy, so I’m going to like running around rooftops with a gun.  (continued)
